“Someday” sounds like a great time to get things done.
That’s when we’ll take that trip, write that book, meet that friend for lunch, right?
Or in my case, host my first art show.
For that last one, though, “someday” is rapidly approaching. And it wasn’t even my idea.
I blame my also-artistic friend Amanda Grafe, who’s always encouraged me to actually DO SOMETHING with my art. When she said she’d put on an art show with me, I finally (finally!) actually committed to it.
Because honestly, it’s a little scary.
Putting yourself “out there” is intimidating, especially when you’re not the most extroverted, super-confident person in the world.
Sure, I like my stuff. But will you? Will you even care?
Very rarely is my concern that other people will be mean. My biggest concern is apathy.
So I put it off. “Someday” I’ll get around to promoting my art. “Someday” I’ll put together an online shop, or sign up for a booth in a flea market, or illustrate a children’s book.
But that’s the tricky thing about “someday” — it never comes. All we’ve got is “today,” right now, this moment. That’s the time we’ve been given, and the time we get to do something with.
So right now, I’m diving into not one but TWO art shows in the next few weeks:
I’m doing The Thing. At least with this, I’m done waiting for “someday.”
AT THE SHOW
Cute stuff (from me) and cool stuff (from Amanda). In addition to “regular” art, I’ll also have things like holiday cards, note cards, keychains and stickers!
Saturday, Nov. 17, from 7 to 9 p.m.
The Art Den Gallery, 285 Main St., Woonsocket, R.I.
Let us know you’re coming HERE on the Facebook gallery event!
20% of all proceeds from any pieces sold (art makes great holiday gifts! just sayin’) goes to Operation Smile and Forever Paws Animal Shelter. Ambient music from Musical Nature will set the mood (yay!). Light snacks will be provided and drinks (yep, alcoholic ones, too!) will be available for purchase.
Hope to see you there!
