Sometimes you want something small

There’s this adorable arts festival in Pawtucket, R.I., each Christmas. And by “adorable,” I mean, “it has some freaking impressive artists who are crazy good at what they do.”

It isn’t just your average little craft fair. Oh no, these folks are GOOD. Their art is GOOD.

And their price tags match.

My husband and I go each year to browse, but never to actually buy the big stuff. Instead, we peek around for booths that offer something small besides the big stuff. If you make gorgeous but super expensive cutting boards, but maybe you also make an ornament— we’ll take that, please. If you make amazingly intricate paintings, but maybe you also offer greeting cards— we’ll take two.

We love supporting local art, but not necessarily with big purchases.

So it kills me when we see some super talented artist with mind-blowing work — but nothing within our price range. We end up getting nothing.

I thought of that when planning my own art show (coming up THIS SATURDAY YOU GUYS!!!).

Yep, paintings and ink drawings are the focal point of the show, as you might expect. For browsing, and also for purchasing. But as adorable as they are (and by “adorable,” this time I do mean “adorable”), maybe you just don’t want them hanging on your wall.

Or maybe (even though they’re super affordable compared to the serious stuff at the Pawtucket festival!) you don’t want to splurge even that much.

Or maybe you just genuinely want something small. That’s totally cool.

That’s why I also wanted to offer things like greeting cards. Stickers. Keychains. Even a clock, a travel mug, and more.

Something small.

So that’s the plan. Honestly, I’m not sure how well it’ll go over. Maybe the show should just be for the art’s sake, not the knick-knacks’ sake.

But there’s only one way to find out — and that’s on this Saturday. I can’t wait to see how it’ll go.

Only FOUR days left! (!!!)

Saturday, Nov. 17, from 7 to 9 p.m.

The Art Den Gallery, 285 Main St., Woonsocket, R.I.

Let us know you’re coming HERE on the Facebook gallery event!

20% of all proceeds from any pieces sold (art makes great holiday gifts! just sayin’) goes to Operation Smile and Forever Paws Animal Shelter. Ambient music from Musical Nature will set the mood (yay!). Light snacks will be provided and drinks (yep, alcoholic ones, too!) will be available for purchase.

Hope to see you there!
