Do it for you

If you love a thing, do it. Don’t let anyone tell you not to.

(Including yourself.)

Don’t talk yourself out of doing something just because someone else might not approve.

Do it for you.
☝️

Not because it’s what other people will like,

or what other people say you should do,

or what you think other people will read, or watch, or approve of.

Do it for you. (Unless you’re making breakfast for your wife because you’re an awesome husband. 🥓 Then do THAT for someone else. Thank you Mr. Varosky!)

Write for yourself.
Draw for yourself.
Create for yourself.

The style I draw won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. And that’s okay. Because I’m not doing for everyone (or their cup of tea).

I’m doing it for me.

I decided to do NaNoWriMo this November. I think it’s a bit overkill given my other scheduled things this month, but I really (really) want to do it. So I’m doing it.

I’m doing it for me.

Sometimes I question if people will even like the thing I’m writing. I doubt if they’ll appreciate my writing style, or the theme of the story. But really, it doesn’t matter.

I’m doing it for me.

I’m writing because I want a story like this to exist, so I’m creating it.

I’m drawing because I love the feeling of the pencil in my hand as it brings a little cat to life.

I’m creating because I have ideas that don’t want to be held in.

And if other people like it, fantastic.

And if They don’t, it doesn’t matter, because I’m not doing it for Them.

I’m doing it for me.

It doesn’t matter what They think. We shouldn’t do things because of what They think.

Do it for you.

“I do not care so much what I am to others as I care what I am to myself.”

― Michel de Montaigne
